About Roy Chin

MEET ROY: I am a multi-disciplinary product manager, product owner, and engineering manager. I am leading the development of advanced software products from idea to customer delivery. I do this by building agile software development teams and an end-user driven product design and development approach. Furthermore, I am used to working in close cooperation with the company's management team (CEO, CTO etc.), as well as middle management (POs, Line Managers etc), and experts (UX Designers, Business Analysts, Architects). BUILDING AGILE TEAMS: I have a passion for building agile development teams. During my career I did this several times for different employers. This includes recruiting talent, on-boarding and training new hires, creating effective scrum teams, assessing performance, embedding newly built teams in the larger organization, and establishing a good cooperation with other teams/departments. I am experienced in leading hybrid teams working partly on site (in the Netherlands) and partly remotely (e.g. in Romania). Furthermore I have experience with Scaled Agile (SAFe). SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: While I consciously steered my career towards leadership and management roles, I do have over 20 years of hands-on experience in software development. During the past decade I extensively developed advanced B2B web-applications using Java, NodeJS/Express and frontend frameworks such as Angular JS and Vue JS. I started in the early days of personal computing and have extensive full-stack experience. That said, please do not contact me for developer jobs, I consciously chose to continue my career as a manager from 2015 onwards. PRODUCT VISION: For me programming is a means to an end, and that end is to realize a great product vision for real life use. I worked on several software platforms for different domains such as computer simulation & business analytics, and planning systems for the port authority, oil & gas companies, and container terminals. LEADERSHIP VALUES: I care a for the well being of my team members and other colleagues. I value a creating great work place, which is why I joined the Works Council of my employer. I value honest feedback, realism, quality, and getting stuff done in time. I value pioneering, innovation, agile development, and an entrepreneurial spirit. EDUCATION: I am eager to keep learning and studying. I hold a PhD (2007) in Systems Engineering and an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. I successfully completed an Executive MBA at RSM, Erasmus University (class of 2016).
