About Royce Koop

Royce Koop is Professor of Political Studies and Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program at the University of Manitoba. He researches representation, political parties, local politics and online political communication. His research has appeared in American Journal of Political Science; Canadian Journal of Communication; Canadian Journal of Political Science; Canadian Public Policy; Commonwealth & Comparative Politics; Federal Governance; Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties; Policy & Internet; Representation; and, Social Science Computer Review. He is the author of "Grassroots Liberals: Organizing for Local and National Politics", co-author of "Representation in Action: Canadian MPs in the Constituencies" and co-editor of "Parties, Elections and the Future of Canadian Politics", all published by University of British Columbia Press. Royce is a recipient of the 2024 McMenemy Prize, a 2014 Rh Foundation Award for outstanding social science research contributions and the 2014 Seymour Martin Lipset Prize from the American Political Science Association for his book Grassroots Liberals. He has held three postdoctoral fellowships: a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at Carleton University, the Skelton-Clark postdoctoral Fellowship at Queen’s University, and the Faculty of Arts Postdoctoral Fellowship at Memorial University. In 2011-12, he was Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University.
