Background

About Ruby Diehl

In 2013, I started high school, where I began learning about CAD design and 3D printing. Working with my teachers, I helped start a major part of the 3D printing enterprise at the school. In my last year, at the request of one teacher, I gave several CAD tutorials to the freshman engineering class. In 2017, I began working at Pentagon EMS as a shop hand, cleaning machines and tools as assisting machine operators. Eventually, I was given operation duty of a CNC mill, where I started creating aluminum parts of all different varieties. I also got to operate just about every machine in the shop, including lathes, 5-axis mills, and composite plastic mills. Finally, I became an expert on cleaning, deburring, and measuring parts. Also in 2017, I began school at Portland State University, focusing on Computer Science. There, I created software applications such as an Alexa program, an operating system, a sentiment analysis system, and even a standalone chatroom. On my own time, I became deeply invested in cellular automata, and began writing programs simulating Conway's Game of Life, Langton Loops, Ants, and slime mold. I also occasionally utilized the university's access to CAD programs to continue personal projects from high school. In 2022, I was hired by Lionbridge Technologies and was a contract worker for HP. I assisted in the development of HP's Metal BinderJet system, specifically by doing the CAD work required to process customer parts of all different shapes and sizes. It was here that I learned the broad range of CAD programs, including Solidworks, Netfabb, and Materialize Magics. On my own time, I started a personal 3D printing operation, taking files found on public fileshare websites like Thingiverse and Printables, modifying them, and printing them on my own personal printer. I continue to do all of this to this day.
