About Ruby Johnston

Throughout my experience in academia, I have centered my studies around the oppressive immigration policies in the United States, specifically within the San Diego border region. Now, as a Latin American Studies Masters Student at University of a California, San Diego, I am engaging in research that studies the extent of humanitarian aid for Migrants at the Mexico Guatemala border. While working as a Case Aide in the Afghan Parolee Assistance Program at the International Rescue Committee office in El Cajon, my position included a lot of client-facing direct assistance as I manage the cases of families and individuals under case workers. I graduated early with a degree in Political Science, and two minors which include Spanish and Latin American Studies. I enjoy working with people and providing direct assistance to those in need within my community. In the Summer of 2022, I created my own donation drive organization and recruited volunteers to help collect, sort, and transport items from SDSU on campus housing move-outs to be utilized by incoming refugee families.
