About Ruby Kirby

Ruby Kirby is the Career Navigator and Internship Manager at Summer Search Boston, which works to unleash students’ potential through mentoring and transformative experiences. She provides support for young people to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience to reach their personal definitions of success. She also works to cultivate partnerships and implement programming to support career growth and development. Ruby completed an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Fellowship in 2021 working with Generations Ahead, a non-profit in Traverse City, Michigan serving and empowering young parents. With Generations Ahead, Ruby managed their inaugural Internship Program, supporting 5 young mothers through internships with local organizations and assisting the interns in building essential life and professional skills through one one-on-one meetings and coaching. Ruby served as a 2017-2018 Princeton in Africa Fellow with the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania at Orkeeswa School as the Career and College Counselor in Monduli, Tanzania. Following her year of service, Ruby moved into the role of Student Programs Coordinator, where she was responsible for leading and developing Orkeeswa's extra-curricular programming to better serve the needs of students in finding and developing their skills and interests. In January 2020, Ruby transitioned to writing unit plans for Orkeeswa's Life Skills program remotely to continue her work of building a relevant and actionable curriculum for secondary school students. Ruby graduated in 2017 with a BA from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. At the University of Michigan, Ruby was the president of the Global Scholars Program, a community focused on global social justice, and the co-president of Michigan’s chapter of the Roosevelt Institute, a student-run policy think tank. She has always been passionate about education equity.
