About Rudesh Patel

Rudesh has over 20 years of experience across financial services with the last nine years specialising in Investment Management. In the Investments environment, Rudesh has worked across Operational Risk management, Product generation and development and since 2016 has worked as a Manager Research Analyst with an evolved focus into ESG allowing him to fulfil dual roles as a Manager Research Analyst as well as Head, Sustainable Investing for Sanlam Investment Multi-Management (SIMM). Rudesh can be called a Career Banker who has diversified his experiences by working across different businesses, maturities, and leadership teams within Financial services. This has allowed him to build the following key experiences: A strong commercial acumen developed by leading projects and initiatives that spanned across Group and Business. Rudesh has also created and implemented customer-focused processes and solutions evident in his Collections and Recoveries role in ABSA Private Banking. He is an avid reader who has a good understanding of the macro-environment.(2) He has developed a sound stakeholder orientation by building, creating and influencing relationships at different levels in a way that drives optimal outcomes. This can be demonstrated in his previous role at Absa Capital and Group where Rudesh was the programme lead for the roll out of the Basel II project which required collaboration across multiple internal stakeholders as well as with the SARB during their annual visits.(3) Rudesh has a deep understanding of Risk. His previous experiences in the Risk environment has allowed him to build an integrated understanding of risk and he continues to use this experience in both Research Analyst and ESG roles.(4) He has a natural curiosity for numbers and uses data to drive strategic investment conversations. He has been building mathematical forecasting models early in his career and has a strong analytical orientation.(5) In his career, Rudesh has led multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on project / business goals. In these roles, Rudesh was responsible for creating collaborative environments and has a strong performance orientation. He proactively drives a culture of learning by continuously upskilling self and team on topical matters.(6) Rudesh has good operational experience having worked in roles that involved optimising operations, streamlining systems, building data capability and vendor management, all within the Investments environment.
