Cellulose here replaces polypropylene as a climbing aid cord material in the production of tomatoes in highly productive greenhouses. At the end of the vegetation period, the material mixture of harvested plant stems wrapped with the cord hereby is transformed from a disposal problem into a sustainable second use option. In this way, considerable amounts of plant substrate become accessible for compost or biogas production, instead of presenting an expensive disposal problem, as is the case with the use of plastic cord, which involves the risk of plastic entering the environment.
