About Rufo Bird

Rufo Bird is currently Head of US Regulatory Reporting for American Express. He leads a team of professionals responsible for US liquidity, Basel calculations and regulatory reporting for AXP parent company and subsidiaries Prior to this role, Rufo was Head of Global Capital Markets and FX Middle Office/Back Office operations, where he led a global team of professionals in New York, India and Mexico responsible for providing comprehensive transaction and accounting support across a significant portion of the trading lifecycle, including post-trade capture, confirmation, settlements, collateral management, accounting, regulatory reporting and compliance. Rufo has held of number of leadership roles in Controllership/Finance, in the US and the UK, where he led the creation of several new organizations, including standing up a controllers group for a captive financing subsidiary group and the EMEA/APAC/LAC Treasury Middle Offices. Prior to joining American Express, Rufo worked at IBM Corporation for over 5 years in various roles, including Worldwide Forecast Manager for IBM Global Financing, Corporate & Treasury Accounting team leader and Senior Accountant for equity and for investments. Including his career at IBM, Rufo has 20+ years of diverse Finance experience in various roles and industries, including food services, engineering, airlines industries and the non-for-profit sector. Passionate about nurturing and developing talent, Rufo serves and leads various mentorship programs, is a Global Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Champion at American Express, leads and Sponsors the Sophomore Finance internship program and is one of the Hispanic Employee Network (HOLA) Global leaders. Rufo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Finance from Fairfield University. He is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager(CFM) and is an active member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at Western Connecticut State University, where he taught all levels of accounting and finance to both undergraduate and graduate students.
