About Ruli Manurung

I am a Staff Software Engineer at Google focusing on Generative AI/ML in the content safety applications area. Previously I was a Staff Computational Linguist at Google Japan, where I co-lead various efforts to improve natural language understanding for the Google Assistant. Most recently I designed and led the implementation of a fully automated pipeline that leverages LLMs to generate synthetic dialog data for training and evaluating NLP models. Previous efforts include the development of horizontal semantic annotators and designing scalable meaning representations. Prior to working at Google, I spent 10 years as an academic at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia, where I bootstrapped the NLP research lab from scratch to become the premier lab in the region focusing on two central topics:(i) Indonesian NLP resources & tools, and (ii) computational language creativity.
