About Rupert Rivett

I have two main passions in life: Photography and Cycling. My journey into photography began in the Royal Air Force, where I served as an Air Photography Technician, specializing in Reconnaissance Intelligence Photography with Nimrod and Harrier squadrons. This experience ignited a lifelong passion for capturing images, which I channeled into my work as a professional freelance photographer. With a focus on Editorial, Press/PR, and documentary photography, my images have been featured in publications worldwide, serving as powerful visual narratives for various organisations and campaigns. Beyond commissioned work, I find inspiration in Street Photography, constantly seeking to capture the essence of life unfolding around me, camera always at the ready—unless, of course, I'm out exploring on my bicycle. Cycling isn't merely a hobby for me—it's a deep-seated passion and a fundamental aspect of my lifestyle. In my earlier years, cycling was centered around competitive racing, where I proudly represented the RAF in Road Racing and Time Trials, culminating in my victory at the inter-service 12-hour Championships in 1988. Fast forward to 2004, I transitioned my personal love for cycling into a thriving business venture. Collaborating with various organisations, I organise and execute mass participant cycling events, known as cyclosportives. These events serve not only to promote the sport but also to give back to charitable causes close to my heart. Additionally, I curate immersive cycling trips to destinations such as Belgium and France, catering to enthusiast groups eager to experience the beauty and camaraderie inherent in the cycling community. My passion for photography and cycling has driven me into advocacy and activism, notably spearheading the successful campaign to preserve the historic Preston Park Cycle Track in Brighton—the oldest outdoor velodrome in the UK and potentially the world. Utilising my skills as an event organiser and social media strategist, I rallied support for this campaign, leveraging media contacts to generate coverage on local BBC TV news, radio, and numerous publications. This commitment to positive change is reflected not only in my photography but also in the cycling events I organise.
