Rusell Cuya is a dynamic and passionate educator. He has experience teaching mathematics at the university and high school levels, including students for whom English is not their native language (#ELL,#ESL, or as it's commonly referred to in Washington state, students receiving #ShelteredInstruction). Rusell has found great success using “Building Thinking Classroom” in his Algebra and Calculus students at Wahluke High School, where 97% of the student body identifies as Latino. At Wahluke, Rusell is considered a leader and mentor. He is on the Building Leadership Team, helping school leaders formulate policy and implement evidence-based practices. He was also asked to mentor the next generation of teachers at Wahluke and meets with them regularly.
