About Rushda Goburdhun

I am Rushda and have more than 10 years of experience in the data protection field. Currently, I work in consultancy at BDO IT Consulting Ltd, where I assist clients across different sectors in implementing data protection frameworks and demonstrating accountability under applicable data protection laws (Mauritius DPA, GDPR amongst others). I have also conducted privacy audits to evaluate the operational effectiveness of the data protection framework in place and provide recommendations on weaknesses/gaps identified, assisted our valued clients in implementing ISO/IEC 27701, conducting DPIAs and provide advice on Data Protection and Responsible use of AI as and when required. Through all the engagements, I have delivered different trainings such as Data Protection Foundation/Advanced trainings and other tailored trainingsPreviously, I served as a Data Protection Officer at the Mauritius Data Protection Office, where I gained in-depth regulatory experience from investigating complaints to advising on high-risk processing and training both public and private stakeholders on the Mauritian Data Protection Act 2017.Beyond data privacy, I also lead compliance risk assessment projects, including working on a Compliance Risk Assessment Tool to help Banks demonstrate compliance under the Bank of Mauritius Guideline on Compliance Risk Management and Governance. I have conducted audits of compliance function effectiveness, and I am actively involved in data governance projects.I believe privacy is not a barrier, it is a driver of trust, good governance, and responsible leadership in today’s digital world.Life is a learning journey and we will always learn something new every-time.
