About Russell Manser

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Geosciences with a focus on Atmospheric Science. I am currently researching machine learning techniques to improve weather forecast uncertainty quantification of wind speed, solar irradiance, and precipitation for renewable generation of residential power and water. I design custom software to integrate these weather forecasts into a GUI that displays distilled data to residents of a smart home that has renewable power generation (solar panels and a wind turbine) and a water collection tank. My research interests include machine learning and artificial intelligence for environmental science, numerical weather prediction and ensemble prediction, and environmental sustainability. I have extensive experience writing scripts and analyzing data in Python, I am well-versed in Git and GitHub for version control, and I am interested in software development.
