About Rusty Batey

I attended college at Armstrong State University and College of Charleston, majoring in business. In 1995 I formed my first business, Computer Strategies, an IT services firm specializing in computer training and basic service. I restructured the company in 2002 under the name Savannah Computers and IT, becoming the first Managed Services Provider in the region. The company flourished and was sold in 2006, though I stayed on with the title of Strategic Account Rep until that company was sold to Hargray Communications in 2013, and then again in 2022 to Dynamic Quest. In parallel to the Managed IT Services business, in 2006, after selling Savannah Computers and IT, I also formed Zulu Marine Services, a family owned business, providing marine transport and sonar services. In the years following, we grew into a full-scale marine services company providing marine debris location, mapping and clean-up, hazardous material remediation, disaster response, waterway clean-up, ROV services, marine platforms, marine excavation, dredging and small marine construction projects. In 2015 we added Zulu AIR (Aerial Imaging Resources) to provide aerial mapping and imaging services, which includes providing inspection services to the wireless infrastructure industry. Our services now also include a robust Nature-based-solutions to erosion division. That division works in both the saltwater ecosystem and freshwater lagoons and ponds to provide assessments and long term stabilization solutions. I have provided project management and oversight on multiple large projects, including: Deepwater Horizon (BP Oil Spill), Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Matthew (for Beaufort County, SC, and the State of Georgia), and Hurricane Irma for the State of Georgia. I have also managed river debris removal projects, including Orangeburg County (Edisto River), City of Altamonte Springs, 120 miles of waterway trails in the Okefenokee Swamp for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and many others.
