Background
About Rusty Carter
Ironworker. Foreman. Superintendent. Safety Manager. OSHA 500, 501, 5400 Outreach Instructor. C.W.I. Skilled trades advocate. Industrial Maintenance and connections professional. Over 20 years of experience as an Ironworker and over 9 as a foreman/superintendent in the field. Jobs and projects range from day trade to several month long endeavors each presenting their own unique challenges to be met and overcome. Currently, I am a customer solutions advisor for North American Contractor Link. I specialize connecting contractors with facilities and clients. Previously, I was a Construction Manager at Jacobs at NASA Langley, and currently am an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Instructor (C.W.I.). I am also an OSHA Master Trainer and continually seek to educate myself in every way possible; I conduct OSHA 10 & 30 hour classes in the General (1910) Construction (1926), Maritime Industries (1915, 1917, 1918) and EM 385-1-1 training as well. I am also a Lay Responder for the American Red Cross. I have assisted in the creation of safety programs, training materials, as well as ensuring compliance. A thorough knowledge of theory coupled with field experience and superintendent/field project management has enabled me to effectively complete all manner of work assigned safe and successfully. Utilizing engineering principles on a variety of job sites has ensured not only safe projects but also great time management. These coupled together contribute to good customer satisfaction and turnaround work. From once in a lifetime projects to routine everyday small jobs and everything in between I have either worked them, ran them, or performed a mix to ensure the best possible outcome. Furthermore, I have a passion to address the stigma and perception associated with the skilled trades. We are undergoing a tremendous shift in the construction industry with the massive retirement of the baby boomer generation and lower recruitment needed to replace them. These two factors, coupled with a stigma that has long been associated with the skilled trades, has created a skilled labor shortage of monumental proportions. This is done in a number of ways from several different avenues, many which find me partnering with facilities, companies, and industries as a whole to address perception, recruitment, and the various needs each have.
