About Ruth Margraff

RUTH MARGRAFF has been called a leader in the new opera movement in America and has toured with her Café Antarsia Ensemble and other projects throughout the USA, UK, Canada, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Japan, Egypt, Azerbaijan and India. Her recent writing includes “Night Wind” from Afghanistan for the play SEVEN with Vital Voices in Washington D.C. currently touring Sweden, Turkey, India, Argentina, Belgium etc. and introduced by Hillary Clinton at the Millenium Broadway Hudson Theater featuring Meryl Streep for Tina Brown's Daily Beast summit,"Women in the World," directed by Julie Taymor (New York City). Ruth has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Rockefeller, NYSCA and McKnight foundations, a Jerome Fellowship with the Playwrights' Center, an NEA/TCG national playwriting residency, a Fulbright to Greece, several TCG and ITI, Arts International and Trust for Mutual Understanding of New York awards and was selected for a CultureConnect envoy to Calcutta (India). Ruth's writing is published by Dramatists Play Service, Kendall/Hunt, Watson Gutpill/Backstage Books, Performing Arts Journal, American Theatre, Theater Forum, The Drama Review, Playscripts, Inc, Applause Books, Conjunctions/Bard, Autonomedia, etc and is forthcoming from Innova Records, New Village Press and NoPassport. She has taught playwriting at the Yale School of Drama, Brown University, University of Texas/Michener Center and is currently Associate Professor at the Art Institute of Chicago. Ruth is an alumnae of New Dramatists and HERE's Harp artist residency, member of League of Professional Theater Women and Theatre Without Borders/Brandeis University's Coexistence International and a Chicago Dramatists resident playwright.
