About Ruth Smith

Ruth B. Smith, CLU, ChFC, FLMI, was an executive vice president of National Life Group, where she led the Customer Innovation Group. She oversaw the company’s life and annuity operations, the enterprise delivery office and information technology — including project planning and execution, IT, new business and underwriting, agent contracting and compensation, in force services, contact center for agents and policyholders, premium collections, disbursements and claims. Ruth joined National Life in as vice president of registered products, and soon was placed in charge of leading the company’s independent distribution channel for life insurance. She was named a senior vice president in 2004 and an executive vice president in 2011. In 2012 she also assumed responsibility for the National Life Group’s affiliated distribution channel; a network of offices and agents in communities throughout the country that are committed to helping individuals, families, and businesses meet the financial protection needs of their families and businesses. Before joining National Life Group, Ruth was an independent consultant, specializing in life insurance product development and marketing, distribution, technology implementation and new business initiatives. She also spent more than 20 years with the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, where she served in several leadership roles, including vice president of new ventures, customer service, annuity products, life product development and distribution. Ruth is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute, and has served as chair of the Independent Producer Marketing Committee of LIMRA. A Chartered Life Underwriter and a Chartered Financial Consultant, she holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Hartford.
