About Ryan Alward

A boutique architectural design studio, Ryan Alward Design focuses on single family homes for clients with budgets big and small alike. Blending practicality and poetry in a signature mix, our goal is to provide exemplary service and extraordinary attention to detail to create custom residences as nuanced and interesting as the individuals who call them home. I believe - above all else - passion, exploration, and the human experience should drive both architecture and architects. Since 2008 I have worked on a variety of custom homes, including a $20 million beach home on the Sunshine Coast of BC, a gut renovation of an Upper East Side penthouse in NYC, and a mini-home prototype in New Brunswick. Leading projects throughout the entire architectural process - from conceptual design all the way to move in day and beyond - the relationships I have formed with clients, colleagues, consultants, and contractors are my greatest successes. With a background in civil engineering, visual arts, and architecture I bring a sense of strategy, inventiveness, and precision to my I'm also incredibly fortunate to work part time at David Nairne + Associates, where I lead projects exclusively for first nations housing initiatives. Apartment buildings and townhouses, this work is part of my own personal truth and reconciliation - giving back to a marginalized community in need, trying to make the world a better place one action at Beyond architecture, I am a photographer, a graphic designer, and a car nut.
