I am pursuing a career in logistics, and would one day like to branch off from retail. My background in teaching English as a second language and customer service has given me valuable, transferable skills: Working at Nordstrom’s has been and continues to be my most rewarding job. It is in these past two years that I have gained focus on my career path and worked to become not just a good employee and co-worker but a good manager. o I worked well with the web team in San Francisco, eventually being given the responsibility to oversee web my last couple of months. o When I transitioned to Corte Madera as Lead in Logistics, I strived to build good relationships with the stock and web teams. If either team fell short of their goals, it was because of bad communication on my part. I took responsibility. If either team did well, it was because I got out of their way and let them excel. It was entirely to their credit. This mindset is what it takes to be a good manager. As a Macy’s Stock Associate, I developed excellent planning and organizational skills. I learned to work in a quiet environment methodically filing shoes away. I demonstrated an attention to detail, ensuring our filing system was accurate and all our shoes were accounted for. The challenges I faced working overseas as an English teacher (2012-2013) helped me grow tremendously and develop my first managing skills. I learned to work with a variety of different people and different learning styles, and to see myself more as a guide than an instructor or lecturer. Both inside and outside the classroom, I took initiative and solved problems. I’ve become resourceful and adaptable. I know how to handle surprises.
