Background

About Ryan Bell

I am a motivated researcher and data analyst currently working as a survey statistician at the Census Bureau in the Economic Indicators Division. I analyze large-scale survey data to provide summaries of economic trends and use my data science skills to generate reports, dashboards, and improve processes. I completed my PhD in American Politics and Quantitative Methods at Princeton University, where I used qualitative and quantitative research methods to improve analysis of political attitudes, public opinion, and civic engagement. I conducted semi-structured interviews and used my analysis of that qualitative data to create a new survey measure, which I then validated using an original survey that I designed and fielded.During my graduate career, I designed, fielded, and analyzed a dozen surveys and experiments to improve measurement, capture nuances in public opinion, and better understand how voters make decisions. These were published in several highly ranked peer-reviewed journals. To advance survey and experimental methods, I strive to incorporate diverse perspectives throughout the research process.
