About Ryan Benson

Architectural designer living in Seattle, WA with extensive and varied design experience. I have recently started a new position at IA Interior Architects in the Retail studio.From November 2015 to March 2021 I was a member of the Specialty Retail studio at CallisonRTKL, leading design projects for a wide variety of clients in Apparel, Large Format Retail, Hospitality and Food & Beverage. From October 2014 through November 2015, I held a Senior Designer position with Gap Inc, focusing on global store design for the Old Navy brand, helping to launch a new store prototype in 3 different markets (San Jose, Toronto, and New York).Previously I was an Associate at Callison from June 2012 to October 2014, focusing on design development for Williams-Sonoma brands including West Elm, Pottery Barn & Pottery Barn Kids. This work included conceptual and schematic design, various stages of construction documents, and construction administration. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miami University in May 2011, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture program with an Honors curriculum. While at Miami, I studied abroad twice, the first time for a Sustainable Design Studio during the summer of 2009 sponsored by Miami's school of Architecture and Interior Design and held in Central London, focusing on a prospective development site in Canary Wharf. I returned a second time in January 2010 for a stint at the University of Westminster in Central London, while also interning on the Civic + Healthcare team at HOK.I have varied past work experience both in and out of architectural design. This includes management, photography assisting, fashion retail, and customer service relations. Extracurricularly I am highly interested in fashion and furniture design which has concurrently fueled my interest in retail design.
