About Ryan Borgesen

I have learned a substantial amount from my experiences in the workplace. A common theme that I have encountered throughout my time, is relationship building and customer experience go a long way. I have had the opportunity to work with all different types of people and have learned patience, and communication are key and often lead to successful outcomes. One opportunity in particular taught me a lot about the best way to understand the needs of others. I had the good fortune of being able to work at a children’s summer camp. I learned a tremendous amount that summer, but the biggest takeaway by far that has helped me be successful in jobs and in life since, is adaptability. Working with children every day is different and filled with surprises. However, having the opportunity to work in that type of environment has prepared me for being able to acclimate to each new curveball thrown my way. Patience, communication and adaptability are three qualities that not only helped me be a successful camp counselor, but allowed me to excel as a business major at UVM. Group projects with randomly assigned partners is a huge aspect of the business curriculum. Working with peers with differing work ethics, opinions and backgrounds proved difficult and at times questioned my patience. But ultimately, I am thankful for that experience because it has provided me with the necessary skills to adapt and thrive in that type of environment, one that I undoubtedly will have to face again in the workplace. My past experiences have not only taught me but confirmed that communication, patience and adaptability are strengths of mine and skills that I will continue to use in my professional career.
