About Ryan Carter

Ever since I was a kid, I have had a fascination with all things mechanical. One of my earliest memories was attending my elementary school book fair, and being the only on to not rent the new Harry Potter novel, and instead check out 2 non-fictions about WW2 airplanes. This fascination remained throughout my adolescence and adulthood, and often manifested in taking apart anything I could get my hands on, just to understand how it worked, and see if I could put it all back together. Recently, I have taken to restoring old motorcycles from the glory days of the UJM and single overhead cam. This quest to understand how things work, is what led to my decision to further my education and seek a career in engineering. During my time studying Mechanical Engineering and Reliability and Maintainability Engineering at The University of Tennessee, you could typically find me with my nose in a textbook, or behind safety goggles at the ICS workshop creating everything from custom kitchen gadgets to electric guitars. I embraced the opportunity to further my knowledge of machines and the physical world, graduating top of the engineering class. I took these valuable skills and applied them into my hobbies, my work with Borg Warner Turbosystems, Taphandles, and most recent my role as a Design Engineer with the Additive Manufacturing Division of The University of Dayton Research Institute.
