About Ryan Futers

When I was 19 years old I packed my car and moved to Calgary from the Niagara Region; I moved because it was time for something new. I started the Hospitality Management program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in the fall of 2013 and graduated with honours in 2015. In May-ish 2016 I got a call from my sister while I was at work, and she asked if I wanted to go bicycle across Newfoundland in August, so a couple weeks later I quit and I did just that. and then I moved back to the Niagara Region. I worked a couple different jobs in the restaurant industry, worked as a financial advisor, and then back to restaurants before becoming a father in June 2018. I quickly decided that the hospitality industry was no longer for me and enrolled at Niagara College where I graduated from the Environmental Technician Field & Lab program. in spring 2020. One month before the end of my final semester we had our first lock-down which was proceeded by a volun-told year off work, after which I began working in the Cannabis industry. I worked as the Compliance Manager at Grand Cannabis St. Catharines, where I found a new passion for a plant and a wicked group of people who I still call my friends even though I have moved on. After numerous applications to various positions within the Region, I finally got an interview, where I proceeded to forget how anything worked but still managed to squeak by. As of April 19 2022, I am now a full-time permanent Wastewater Operator with the Niagara Region at the Niagara Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant (and I know much more about my job now).
