About Ryan Haagenson
I am interested in numerical simulation of geoscientific and environmental engineering problems with a particular focus on coupled subsurface processes. I currently work with the subsurface predictive simulation group at PNNL, where I work on geo-energy projects including geologic carbon sequestration and hydrogen storage. Previously, my postdoctoral work concerned assessing permafrost extent in high mountain Asia with high-fidelity physics-based models informed by global climate datasets. My Ph.D. research focused on investigating the behavior of injection-induced seismicity (using hydro-mechanical subsurface models) in heterogeneous and fractured reservoirs. In the end, I simply enjoy finding innovative yet useful solutions to important and complex problems.
