About Ryan Haagenson
I am interested in numerical simulation of geoscientific problems with a particular focus on coupled subsurface processes. I am currently at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics collaborating with the Geoscience and Engineering department at TU Delft, where I am researching novel numerical methods for simulating multiphase flow in fractured media with applications on geo-energy projects including geologic carbon sequestration (GCS) and underground hydrogen storage (UHS). In previous positions, I have contributed to a wide range of research areas, including: geomechanical risk assessment for GCS, reservoir simulation for UHS, thermo-hydrologic simulation of permafrost dynamics in high mountain Asia, and thermo-hydraulic simulation of ice sheet and glacier flow problems. My Ph.D. research focused on investigating the behavior of injection-induced seismicity (using hydro-mechanical subsurface models) in heterogeneous and fractured reservoirs. In the end, I simply enjoy finding innovative yet useful solutions to important and complex problems.
