About Ryan Hicks

An accomplished life science leader and expert Cell and Molecular scientist with over 23 years’ experience in drug discovery and development across multiple disease areas including cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, and immunology. Throughout my career, I have led and developed people, projects, science and scientific infrastructure across departments, geographies and therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, antibodies, therapeutic genome editing, oligonucleotide therapies and cell therapy. This has included the development of biochemical and cellular assays, advanced cell models including stem cells, organoids, micro-physiological systems, and various screening and automation systems. I have supported, driven and led projects both internally and in collaborative partnerships with key academic leaders, industries and government agencies. I have a talent for leading people, projects and science, with a strong network and business acumen to lead at a senior level, to recruit and retain talent, to develop people and deliver projects from idea to clinical application. In addition to industrial and biopharmaceutical work, I am a Visiting Professor at King’s College London in the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine and Sciences, within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. I am also a program board member for the MRC Training and Careers strategic overview Group (TCG). I have led many external collaborations with industrial and academic partners, contributed to multiple successful grant applications, supervised several Postdoc and Ph.D. scientists and have over 40 peer reviewed publications. I am a positive, energetic, and motivated individual, with a proven track record in building and developing high performance teams, creating strategic visions combined with leadership at all levels, to successfully deliver a diverse array of projects, globally, focused on accelerating drug discovery and development. A mindset for talent development, with the goal of understanding, advancing, and communicating science and its translation to deliver medicines as a key driver. My strongest drivers are a passion for science and people and the commitment to succeed and make a difference.
