About Ryan Jackson

I am a software engineer with over twenty-five years of experience. My early experiences involved writing Windows desktop applications and shared libraries. As industry changed I moved into cloud-based applications, focusing on both middleware and backend services. I have always had a passion for the sciences, computers and programming. I work well with others and employ good leadership skills. My work experience includes languages like C++, Go, Java, Kotlin and Python. My experience with cloud based technologies include AWS (EC2 and SQS), GAE, GCE and Kubernetes. I have experience with the internal structure of a variety of file formats including MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word), PDF,(X)HTML and XML. I have contributed a bug fix to the PDFBox library which was very meaningful to me. I really enjoyed giving back to an Open Source project. Some of my recent work has involved using the scaling capabilities of Kubernetes to ensure that our services meet our SLOs during normal working hours but scale down when demand subsides to reduce infrastructure costs. Outside of work I enjoy reading about the philosophy of religion and the philosophy of science. I appreciate good and meaningful conversations about important topics. One other outside hobby involves being a volunteer driving instructor with our local Porsche (PCA) club. My mother is French and I speak French and some German, with a Minor in each. Having spent many summers in France growing up, I am looking for opportunities to work in the EU.
