About Ryan Joyce

I'm an Amsterdam-based American expat working to ensure IB's educational programmes provide a transformative education and promote individual and collective flourishing and engagement in and with issues of local and global significance. In my current role, I co-lead a multi-year design project that will deliver new IB programmes for learners 16 and older to our schools for 2030. Before that, I managed a team of curriculum designers working across languages and arts disciplines and led the curriculum review process for the IB DP's classical languages course. I joined IB from The Brooklyn Latin School, a public magnet school in New York City, where I taught Latin and chaired the school's classics department. I also represent IB staff on our local Works Council, which advises and co-determines company policy on issues like performance review, compensation, reorganisations, and hybrid and remote working policy. My work as a project lead, manager, and Works Council member is informed by human-centred and integrated design, systems thinking, and a budding interest in tools and approaches for compassionate systems change.
