About Ryan Kong

As a professional engineer with a passion for solving challenges in our communities and shaping the built environment, I bring a unique blend of analytical thinking, creativity, agility, and project management experience. My background in civil engineering and data analysis enables me to develop innovative and efficient solutions for complex problems. I have contributed to projects in various sectors, including aviation, infrastructure, education, arts/culture, and property development across Canada, Ireland, Jamaica, and the United States. I have developed Python and SQL workflows that reduced design time on a $64M project, created PowerBI dashboards for a $4.7B infrastructure project to enhance communication with clients and senior leadership, and evaluated the reuse potential of historic buildings, providing critical assessments and recommendations. I hold a Master of Engineering from the University of Toronto, with a focus on data science, seismic design, and finite element methods. A key project during my masters was the optimization of Bike Share Toronto’s station locations using data analysis and machine learning. Additionally, I earned a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo, where my coursework included topics in structural engineering, economics, land development planning, and statistics. This comprehensive curriculum equipped me with a holistic perspective on the diverse facets of engineering and development. I graduated with honors and received multiple awards for my academic achievements. Outside of work I enjoy photography, personal fitness, and travel (34 countries and counting!).
