Background
About Ryan Lynch
After working in Pixar's Story and Development departments on Academy Award-winning films such as Brave, Ratatouille, Toy Story, and Cars shorts, I decided to branch out and start writing and directing worlds that resonated with me. I'm fascinated with immersive worlds and new ways to tell stories, both as a feat of technology and from an audience perspective. I created SanFranLand, a live-action episodic series, and directed and wrote UTurn VR, which embodied immersive first-person POV storytelling. Both projects garnered numerous awards and played in international film festivals, such as Cannes XR Arcade, San Francisco International, Mill Valley Film Festival, UN Women Global Voices, and more. My work has been distributed on Canal OTT (part of Canal+), Amazon, Samsung VR, Oculus Go, Fandor, and KQED. I have two feature-length screenplays in various stages of development (Noor & T.Rex) with Mehwish Hayat (Ms. Marvel) in the lead role and in the financing and packaging stage with Belga Films and Bohemia Originals. I'm repped by the management company, Bohemia Group. As a painter/visual artist, I've done many live shows and video projections with the art and music collectives of Heavyweight Dub Champion & Airpusher Collective. My abstract paintings channel the interconnectedness I've felt when expanding consciousness through meditation and altered states. I helped build a Steampunk Airship that traveled the dusty seas of TTITD, along with helping to produce large-scale live events in the Bay Area and Colorado. Growing up on a horse farm in rural Georgia, I had limited avenues for seeing the world, but somehow even in the boonies, there was a video store at the end of my dirt road. I rode my horse to that video store whenever I found change tucked into the couch. Many films were on repeat, like Princess Bride, ET, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars, so my obsession with art, film, & story worlds started from an early age. I'm interested in telling complex, female-driven stories that put ordinary women in extraordinary worlds where they often unearth their latent strengths. My films, stories, and art often use magical realism as a vehicle for subconscious thought, as there is something so extra-ordinary about the human experience. I have an MFA in Film Directing/Animation from the Academy of Art University, a BFA in Visual Arts from CU Denver, and a BA in Biology from CU Boulder. I've been a mentor for Cinestory and a juror/screener for the Mill Valley Film Festival, Palo Alto International Film Festival, SF Web Fest, and more.
