Background
About Ryan Manriquez
Ryan Manriquez (He/They) is a Master of Public Policy Candidate at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy and a recent graduate from the University of California, Davis, holding a Bachelor of Arts in both Political Science and Communication. Upon transferring from Folsom Lake College, Ryan immediately involved himself in the Davis community through ASUCD, UC Davis’s student association, as a member of the ASUCD Senate table and later as President. Ryan’s commitment to student advocacy through work in ASUCD and the UCGPC has allowed them to approach student issues through an intersectional lens which informs strategic policy decisions at the highest levels of the UC system. Ryan made history as the first disabled student and transfer student to be elected President of the ASUCD and serve as the principal liaison to the UCD administration, local government, and various community stakeholders on behalf of 31K+ undergraduate students. Serving as the Senior Executive entrusted to coordinate the functions of the ASUCD Executive Office; he established trust and respect between all parties, and spearheaded efforts to achieve ASUCD’s mission to improve the quality of campus life and help students thrive. Ryan also built a strong leadership team; overseeing the work of 1K student employees and volunteers, and administered a wide range of programs and services to support undergraduate students. Additionally as ASUCD President, Ryan administered a $17.7M budget with a strong focus on ensuring the way student fees are spent to help students thrive by sustaining all 16 business units despite pandemic setbacks. He transitioned 143 positions that were previously on stipend or volunteer to hourly positions and increased wages all around for every position at ASUCD. Ryan is excited to start a new role as President of the UC Graduate and Professional Council where he will continue to advocate for the UC student community among graduate and professional students. In this role, Ryan represents over graduate and professional students across the UC system. Over the next year, Ryan will advocate to UC Leaders such as UC President Dr. Michael Drake as well as State and Federal legislators who oversee issues directly related to the graduate and professional student community.
