Background
About Ryan Marek
I'm a quality candidate for this position because I was a college athlete, making me a well-rounded leader and excellent at multi-tasking since I graduated with a bachelor's in cybersecurity and now getting my MBA in cybersecurity management. I worked for an IT firm for a year and a half, doing data entries and fixing hardware. I helped employees around the office if their passwords got locked out and used administrative access to reset them. Or, if the network was down, go into the server room and reset the routers. While working at a tech company during my master's graduate program, I learned, applied, deployed, and utilized various cyber-related job skills and gained valuable work experience. Some examples of these job-relatable skills are listed below. Deployed Wireshark packet captured to hunt for techniques, tactics, and procedures known as attack vulnerabilities used by threat actors within pcap files. Deployed the software Splunk to monitor and search through data on a network. By using Splunk, I was able to monitor and detect operations. Ran Nmap scans on a network to configure possible vulnerabilities on a specific network. While also utilizing Nessus after the Nmap scans to configure and analyze where the vulnerabilities ranged from high, medium, and low. While utilizing Nessus was able to monitor a system's potential threats and how to improve its security after the scans were run. Also, by deploying, Nessus could investigate security incidents and conduct data analysis based on vulnerabilities. I was running Kali Linux to use Metasploit on a server to find vulnerabilities on the network. Wrote a security assessment on a company, documented all the scenario results, and identified the flaws and gaps in the organization and response and recommendations to make the adjustments. I have worked with IP tables and configured packet filter rules for the Linux firewall. I have developed intrusion detection rules using the software Snort. I was deploying Netwitness to respond to, detect, and analyze specific threats on a network. Working at an IT firm had the opportunity to configure Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco switches. Working at the firm as an IT associate, configuring access points for our network. Having worked on a penetration project to hack into a server using Kali Linux with a team and using specific tools like meta exploit to find vulnerabilities in the system. While working at The IT firm, I was able to be hands-on with either personal computers or printers going out and having to fix them due to Internet connection.
