About Ryan Martin

A graduate of the Geological Engineering program at Cambrian College,with eight years of experience at Vale, two years at Totten Mine as a Safety Advisor and five years in Geophysics. My role in Safety has given me a vast and acute understanding of the safety systems and controls required to mitigate risks in the workplace such as PHR’s, SLAM’s and Coaching Conversations. My background in Geophysics has given me experience in dealing with various precision tools and calculations. Both roles at Vale have allowed me to work towards common goals as a member of a team and have also given me opportunities to surpass targets that I set for myself as an individual. Before Vale I worked in high pressure water cleaning and industrial vacuuming where I spent time at all the various mines and industrial plants in Sudbury. It was during this time as a worker performing jobs with high risk that I was first introduced to the importance of safety and how critical it was to communicate effectively in order to be safe as a team, to make the conditions safe for bystanders and to trust one’s instincts. Currently, I’m looking for a role that will allow me to blend the skills and experience of all my past roles and challenge me in new ways. I’m looking for a role where I can stay active, be a part of a team yet be trusted to perform a job effectively on my own where I can utilize my understanding of SafeProduction.
