About Ryan McMullan
I joined the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research (CHSSR) at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) in 2018. Since joining CHSSR, I have applied my experience with experimental and observational research methods to health services research projects. The overall goal of my work is to improve hospital staff experience and patient safety. I'm presently a Research Fellow working on several projects, including a simulation study investigating the effectiveness of double-checking for medication administration and a project examining the health systems response when patients are harmed. Previous projects include an evaluation of a professional accountability culture change program across 8 hospitals and an evaluation of the usability of a new electronic record for intensive care in neonatal and paediatric intensive care units. I have experience with both quantitative and qualitative research, including cross-sectional surveys, observational studies, experimental studies, simulation studies, and interviews. My other interests include non-technical skills in operating theatres, distractions and interruptions in hospital settings, and medication safety.
