About Ryan Parton

I'm the Manager of Recreation & Culture for the Village of Cumberland and Executive Director / Race Director of Steam Donkey Racing, a nonprofit society that hosts the Dodge City X off-road triathlon in Cumberland. I'm also a recovering professional copywriter and founder of RP Copywriting, once Vancouver Island's largest copywriting firm. In another past life I was co-publisher of the Comox Valley Business Gazette, which later expanded throughout the North Island, between 2011 and 2017. A graduate with distinction of Concordia University’s School of Journalism in Montreal, I relocated to Vancouver Island in 2002, where I became Marketing Coordinator for Comox Valley Tourism and later founded Ryan Parton Writing Solutions, rebranded as RP Copywriting in 2014. I co-founded Steam Donkey Racing and launched Dodge City X in 2018, and I joined the Village of Cumberland as Recreation Coordinator in 2019. A former competitive water polo player turned amateur off-road triathlete, I was a member of Canada's age group national team at the World Cross Triathlon Championships in Penticton in 2017, and I competed in the XTERRA World Championships in Maui that same year. I live in Courtenay, BC with my wife and two sons.
