Background

About Ryan Sacks

At Case Western Reserve University I worked under Dr. Daniel Akerib on both the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) project as an undergraduate research assistant and on the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) dark matter experiment where I used computational software to model the experiment. Between my 3rd and 4th years at Case I worked at Westinghouse also doing computational modeling, this time of spent nuclear fuel pools using inhouse programs. After graduating from Case I moved to the University of Wisconsin - Madison and began studying Nuclear Engineering. During my first 3 semesters at the university I worked as teaching assistant under Dr. Robert Witt and Dr. Micheal Plesha teaching undergraduate students in introductory engineering classes. Between my first and second years at UW-Madison I took a summer position at Lawrence Livermore National Labs (LLNL) where I worked under Dr. Aaron Miles and ran computational simulations in support of the National Ignition Campaign. I obtained my Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering at the university of Wisconsin-Madison working under Dr. Gregory Moses performing radiation hydrodynamic simulations of a proposed laser inertial fusion energy reactor chamber. I spent 2.5 years as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at LLNL working on capsule designs of experiments to study mix and high energy density physics on the National Ignition Facility. I am currently a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory working on computational physics related to radiation hydrodynamics, material mixing, hydrodynamic instabilities, and inertial confinement fusion.
