I was taught to lead in the wilderness. Out there, leadership isn’t a title. It’s a responsibility. You adapt. You protect. You plan for everything and pivot when needed. You have hard conversations early, not because it’s easy, but because it keeps people safe. You build trust, not fear. There’s a difference between managing people and leading them. I didn’t fully understand that until I saw what passed for leadership in most workplaces. For a long time, I couldn’t figure out why others didn’t see what I saw. Why were safety, respect, and trust missing from systems that claimed to care about people? Then I realized most people weren’t taught this. They hadn’t learned leadership in environments where the consequences were immediate. That took me too long to learn. I tried to change it from the inside. But eventually, I realized you can’t fix what people don’t know is broken. So I stepped out of the system and into the public. To teach the lessons I had taught my staff for years. To speak the truth, I’d been holding back. To ask the question that changed everything: What do I wish every leader knew? And I wasn’t the only one asking. Within a few months of sharing these ideas, I became one of LinkedIn’s top voices in workplace culture and neurodivergent leadership. So clearly, we’re onto something here. That’s why I built the Caird Leadership Method. Because it’s time we stop rewarding performative leadership and start building systems that actually protect people.
