Background
About Ryan Salazar
I am a recent graduate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelors in Science for Mechanical Engineering and a Concentration in HVAC & R Principles. Over the course of my college career, through Cal Poly's application of "Learn by Doing" education, I gained hands on experience with industry related tools such as machining equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Electrical Circuits, as well as programs such as MATLAB, Revit, Trace700, EES, Fusion360, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD. I am proficient with the Microsoft Suit, performing FEA/FEM analyses, and fundamental principles/applications for Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics. I chose to pursue an HVAC & R concentration due to my passion for the Thermo/Fluid aspects of my course work, along with the idea that providing clean air in an efficient and sustainable manner through building design should be a top priority to all, moving forward in an increasingly hostile climate. While performing a complete thermodynamic analysis of Diablo Nuclear Power Plant and following the flow of energy and the state of matter through the system, I understood the necessity of attention to detail, organization, and readability of detailed schematics of complicated systems/plants. My Senior Design Project and team of three placed first in the international design competition we entered for its sustainability and cost effective use of heat transfer principles. The design of a hydroponic garden capable of sustaining a family of four, using under 300 square feet of space is able to pay for itself in savings in under 15 years. My team and I retrofitted a shipping container to support solar panels and an HVAC system to power and support the indoor grow area in an economical manner. Using tools such as Revit, EES, and MATLAB for building modeling, energy calculations, and solar positioning, respectively, we were able to keep our project on time, on schedule, and under budget for the duration of our 6 month project. I look forward to using, improving, and refining my acquired skills in industry, as well as the opportunity to grow and continue to learn. Currently in the process of obtaining my Fundamentals of Engineering Certification and plan to pursue my PE License as soon as possible.
