About Ryan Saunders

I am an AANPCB FNP board certified Nurse Practitioner - Primary Health Care and graduate of the University of Toronto, Master of Nursing (MN). I gained a strong foundation in pediatric primary care and emergency medicine (EM) for four and a half years as a Registered Nurse at The Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Canada. During my NP training, I gained experience in both pediatric and adult care through rotations in emergency, internal, and rural family medicine. My ambition is to be a confident Nurse Practitioner in primary care, emergency, and various other areas of practice. I have the passion and ambition to provide excellent integrated care, improve healthcare access, and enhance patient outcomes to various populations including at-risk individuals, LGBTQI+ and women’s health. Currently, I practice as PHC-NP at the CHC/CRA in Stouffville and previously as an EM-NP at Markham Stouffville Hospital, where I pioneered a six month trial project as the first EM-NP and successfully improved patient outcomes and reduced provider initial assessment times; resulting in permanent positions for four NPs. I practice to full scope and provide both emergency and primary care to patients across the lifespan. I sought out additional training at The Hospital for Sick Children’s Emergency Department in bedside lung ultrasound, aesthetic medicine, the Headache Head Start NP program, as well as transgender health care through Rainbow Health Ontario. My goals are to become emergency medicine POCUS certified. I am currently teaching NP students to ensure they are well prepared to take in the provider role in a safe manner to continue to build confidence in novice Nurse Practitioners.
