About Ryan Shaw

I have previously served as the Graduate Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) Coordinator and continue to work closely with the Graduate College at the University of Illinois Urbana -Champaign (UIUC) in organizing programs targeted at underrepresented minority students across the country. I host professional development seminars, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and organize events for summer program participants. While I work part-time as the SROP Coordinator, I also work full-time as a Ph.D. student in Dr. Sayeepriyadarshini Anakk's lab studying the role of the nuclear receptor Small Heterodimer Partner (SHP) in cholestatic liver disease and injury. My formal training as a Molecular and Integrative Physiologist gives me the expertise to advise and teach students in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) fields. As I approach the end of my Ph.D.(April 2024), my goal is to join an organization where my expertise in STEM and Program Coordination can be used to provide opportunities to minority, low-income, and first-generation college students and communities.
