About Ryan Sibley

Ryan Sibley is a content strategist with Nava PBC where she writes, edits, manages, researches and plans content for a variety of products. Included in that is working through complicated interactions and user experience to create the most thoughtful design possible. Ryan also has extensive experience working with and writing about data. She's a fierce advocate for opening data and making it accessible to people who need it inside and outside of government. She's worked on a variety of diverse projects within government, including the new VA.gov, the foia.gov portal, the FBI's Crime Data Explorer, login.gov, and rewriting instructions for becoming a government contractor. She's obsessed with language and is always looking for ways to make sure people understand. Before accepting a position in public service, Ryan worked at the Sunlight Foundation as an investigative reporter and editor specializing in projects that dealt with campaign finance data, lobbying, criminal justice data and government spending. Her work at Sunlight was featured and cited by major news outlets, including CBS News, Politico, The Rachel Maddow show and many others. She was one of the first reporters in the country to investigate outside spending, or Super PACs, and led the creation of a massive inventory of criminal justice data. Her time spent at the watchdog organization taught her the importance of government accountability that she will take with her in every role she assumes. Originally from California, Ryan graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor's degree in English literature and went on to receive a masters degree in journalism from American University in Washington D.C.
