About Ryan van Brummelen

During the past election cycle, I worked with Grindstone Campaigns on ballot initiative campaigns, congressional races and other down ballot races. In my capacity as operations manager, I streamlined the organization's hiring process through the development of campaign-specific onboarding courses. By updating our hiring process, onboarding hundreds of campaign staff during an election year was expedited significantly. I received my Master's in International Public Management and Public Policy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. This degree familiarized me with the theoretical foundations of coalition formation, New Public Management (NPM), and civil society organization. Prior to pursuing this degree, I worked for LeadingAge California, the state's leading advocate for the full continuum of senior housing and health care. I entered this role at the onset of the pandemic and helped the organization pivot to best support the needs of our member communities and their residents. I developed grassroots campaigns that elevated key issues and budget requests to California's elected officials, shifted our PAC fundraisers and lobby day to a virtual format, and developed weekly policy newsletters that updated members on the latest regulatory and legislative changes. Other roles included an internship at the top ranked public affairs and public relations firm in the Greater Sacramento Region. At Randle Communications, I developed social media content to strengthen public affairs campaigns for organizations including the California Association of Realtors, California Hospital Association, and the Mattress Recycling Council. I also interned at the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), an organization with consultative status at the United Nations, where I supported the international Model United Nations program. Following the internship, I was hired by WFUNA to staff conferences in New York City and Agra.
