About Ryan Welch

As a highly motivated individual with diverse experiences, I have gained valuable skills in both customer service and scientific research. I began my career in the automotive industry as a car wash assistant manager, where I honed my leadership and communication skills while overseeing a team of 7 employees. As an assistant manager, my responsibilities included money management, maintaining car wash equipment, along with meeting and greeting customers to ensure that they had a quality experience. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with a focus on environmental hydrology at Western Carolina University. I have succeeded in Soils and Hydrology courses where I have calculated the discharge of streams and rivers, observed sediments’ effects on the flow of groundwater, and measured groundwater with measuring tape. While mastering these skills, I have gained hands-on field experience within a local watershed where I measured groundwater levels and collected data related to discharge. I have also volunteered to do groundwater research under a hydrology professor. Additional classes I have completed are Mineralogy and Petrology where I gained experience identifying minerals through hand samples and thin sections along with determining formation conditions. Additionally, I have succeeded in Sediments and Stratigraphy where I logged samples into a stratigraphic column. I have developed proficiency in technical writing and data analysis with all these classes. With a proven track record of success in both customer-interaction roles and scientific research, I am eager to leverage my skills and knowledge to make meaningful contributions to the field of geology and the broader scientific community.
