About Ryan Windish

I'm an emergency medicine staff specialist with an interest in developing medical education programs which incorporate online/web-based resources with traditional didactic and skills-based educational sessions. I feel innovative solutions are required in order to provide interns with a quality educational experience that exposes them to the full spectrum of emergency medical care as well as makes the most of limited educational time. Because of this, I have worked with a group of fellow emergency specialists to develop the "Emergency Medicine on the Edge " Program a 10-week intern training curriculum in the discipline of emergency medicine for interns that is used in a number of hospitals around Australia. An early exposure to research and the quality assurance process is another area lacking in junior doctor training. Because of this, I have worked with colleagues to develop a quality assurance initiative at Redcliffe Hospital to introduce intern doctors to research and quality assurance principles during their ED elective term. During their 10-week term, interns are required to design and carry out a clinical audit. This has been a successful program resulting in a significant increase in departmental quality assurance projects and and a reported better understanding of quality assurance and research concepts by interns. My other areas of interest include medical toxicology, emergency airway management, and emergency medicine issues in relation to bariatric patients.
