About Ryley Gemmill

My passion for public health comes from my time studying health science at Ontario Tech, where I entered with the vague notion of helping people, and now know that I want to empower people and communities to be better not just for today or tomorrow, but for all the tomorrows over the next decade. The biggest thing I learned at Ontario Tech is the power of community, being a newer school, Ontario Tech presented near limitless opportunity for involvement in the campus and community. I got to witness and experience first hand how a passionate community can shape their environment. Whether it was intramurals, study groups, clubs, student societies, the community saw their vision come to fruition through passion and dedication to hard work. For the past several years I have been working as a Front End Supervisor at a major chain grocery store. My role involves overseeing the cashiers, customer service, online shopping departments, to make sure customers have the best possible experience, and all the small things that lead to success are being done. Overseeing such an operation has left me with the ability to think quickly and critically to solve problems, aiming for the best outcomes for all stakeholders. In addition, having so much going on at once, has led my to develop excellent communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with hundreds of members of the public on any given day.
