About Ryosuke Koshiba

After graduating the graduate school of the University of Tokyo in 1996, I joined Toshiba Corporation. As a researcher of speech recognition technology, I spent one year in the U.S, working with a venture company. During my stay, the company was acquired by Microsoft Corporation, which gave me a firsthand look at the M&A activity in the United States. After returning to Japan, I became a patent attorney and was transferred to the Intellectual Property Department upon request. In the Intellectual Property Department, I was involved in patent prosecution, licensing, and IP strategy development. In my licensing practice, I have experienced numerous U.S. litigations. Later, I established the New Business Planning Group with my colleagues to launch new businesses using Toshiba's intellectual property technology as the source. The group has successfully launched several new businesses in four years. However, the most significant achievement, in my opinion, was the creation of a scheme to launch new businesses in a reproducible manner. In 2022, I joined TDK looking for a new challenge. TDK is a very global company and I very much enjoy the challenge of working with my wonderful colleagues to help the company grow.
