About S. Satish Kumar

S. Satish Kumar is an Assistant Professor with the Department of English, in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at GITAM University (Deemed) in Hyderabad. He received his PhD in Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies from the University of Georgia in May 2020, where he worked as part-time faculty in Comparative Literature and African American Studies from August 2020-May 2021. At the University of Georgia, he developed and taught courses in the literatures, histories and cultures of Africa and the African diaspora, Ethnic American literatures, immigrant and migrant literatures and survey courses in World Literature. Each of these courses had a strong writing component and covered a variety of theoretical approaches such as critical race theory, postcolonialism, feminism, queer theory and theories and philosophies of otherness. Besides teaching, Kumar has also presented conference talks, invited lectures and published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on South Asian and African literatures. He received his Bachelors' and Masters' degrees in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University and later worked there as a guest instructor with the Centre for Studies in African Literatures and Cultures. Kumar is fluent in English, Hindi, Bangla, has a working knowledge of Tamil, Malayalam, Urdu, and reading knowledge of French and Swahili. His areas of interest in Research and Teaching are: African Studies, African American Studies, South Asian Studies, Critical Race Theory, Critical Thinking, Colonialisms and Post Colonialisms, Moral Philosophy and Moral Psychology, Literary Theory and Criticism, Poetics and Aesthetics, History of Slavery in the United States, Feminist and Gender Theory and World Literatures.
