About Saar Hommes

Currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Academic Collaborative Center "Digital Health and Mental Wellbeing" at Tilburg University. In my research, I focus on how we can use digital tools to communicate personalised health information. I conduct quantitative research (e.g, questionnaires, experiments) as well as qualitative research (e.g, interviews, literature studies). In my dissertation, I explored if cancer and trauma patients would like to receive personalised numbers and/or narratives about life after their disease or injury and what this would add to clinical practice. Do patients like knowing what life has in store for them, even when outcomes are bad? And do they like reading about someone who experienced similar health issues- Ik werk momenteel als postdoc bij de Academische Werkplaats "Digitale Gezondheid en Mentaal Welzijn" van Tilburg University. In mijn onderzoek richt ik me op hoe digitale hulpmiddelen ingezet kunnen worden bij het communiceren van persoonlijke gezondheidsinformatie. Ik doe zowel kwantitatief onderzoek (zoals vragenlijsten, experimenten) als kwalitatief onderzoek (bijv. interviews of literatuurstudies). In mijn proefschrift heb ik onderzocht of mensen met kanker of een ongeval behoefte hebben aan gepersonaliseerde nummers en/of verhalen over hun leven na hun ziekte of ongeval en wat dit toe zou kunnen voegen aan de klinische praktijk. Vinden patiënten het fijn om te weten hoe hun leven eruit zou kunnen zien, ook als dit niet zo rooskleurig is? En willen ze graag lezen over iemand die dezelfde gezondheidsproblemen heeft gehad?
