About Saba Sonan

As young as I may be, there are many challenges and experiences I have faced thus far. While there is still so much to learn from as I continue to move forward in my professional career, I am proud to say that I have many transferable skills developed throughout my experience within my education and workplace. What I took most enjoyment from each of my professional experiences is how unique they were to one another. Working as a Crew Trainer at McDonald's helped me develop skills I would have never as an Administrative Assistant at Heathwood Homes or a Child Youth Worker's assistant in Waterloo Regional School Board, the same vice versa. While developing career plans, I learned I am an INFJ, this means I thrive in work environments that value comfort, variety, adaptability, and continuous growth. I work best in roles that balance individuality with teamwork, especially when I’m helping and understanding others to provide the best service possible While I currently work as a Client Advisor at RBC, I find there to never be a dull moment. Many experiences in this job have been unique and meaningful, thanks to the clients that visit the branch everyday, as well as the wonderful team and community that I regularly communicate with. This field of work has taught me many personal lessons in ways that would benefit people as young as myself, new to adulthood and barely knowledgeable on how to keep ourselves and our money safe. Coming into this job, I knew the potential experience I would develop from this workplace, but there is more than simple work experience I expected, rather I have learned better communication skills and how to work as an effective team with fellow advisors. The commonality with each of these careers is how people-focused they are. As someone currently studying in the Human Services program at Conestoga College, while constantly seeking jobs that help others I have learned how truly passionate I am to simply make one's day. While I enjoy bringing happiness to the lives of those around me I also find I have a deep interest in the study of the human mind. This originally caused me to desire the path towards becoming a psychotherapist, or a social worker, both wonderful careers I would enjoy pursuing; however, discovering my deep passion for justice, I was soon torn between pursuing law and pursuing psychology. As I had neared the end of my career exploration class, I discovered a fairly new career, which perfectly combined the two fields I wished to spend the rest of my life in, Forensic Psychology.
